“Despite the viola da gamba being my first instrument, I inevitably explored more than just early music.

I graduated with a BA from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (Basel, CH), specializing in medieval and renaissance music. Afterwards I did an MA at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (NL) in viola da gamba and violone, specializing in contemporary music.

Since then, I have been active mostly in the field of contemporary music, collaborating with composers, as well as focusing more and more on my own audio art, which implements not only the viola da gamba, but also analogue and digital sound synthesis.

As a viola da gamba player, working with composers can be a unique challenge. I advocate strongly for the use of the viola da gamba in new music, along with educating composers about the instrument. There still exists many new sound worlds to discover, yet it is also important to disconnect the links early instruments have with their own past. I strive to explore these ideas in my audio art and my connections to my own history; to dismantle the links not only between different times, but between different cultural identities as well.

My practices as a sound artist and performing musician have brought me all around the globe, from art exhibitions in Lahore, Pakistan, to early music festivals in Curitiba, Brazil, and everywhere in between. In Europe, I work regularly with collectives such as Lux Beata (Belgium), Ugly Pug (The Netherlands), Ensemble Joseph Hel (France), Capella dei Signori (Portugal).”
