Marios Ktoridis (SOM)

Yoga
With 19 years of experience practicing various forms of yoga, such as vinyasa power flow, Ashtanga, Yin and Kundalini, Marios is using a multidisciplinary background that emerges from different physical practices and theories such as ballet, alexander technique and body and mind alignment techniques that bring more consciousness to the body.

In 2021 after almost 16 years of practicing yoga Marios attended a 200h Yoga Teachers Course at Equal Yoga school in Amsterdam for obtaining a Teacher’s Diploma. Marios has since been teaching and practicing yoga at various venues in Amsterdam and Nicosia as a guest teacher. Marios’ yoga practice combines years of experience of practicing himself in combination with the knowledge that other body practices carry such as ballet technique, contemporary dance, core and voice work.

The main mantra for Marios practice is: use your breath, use your core and listen to your body. The classes are developed in such a way that brings students’ awareness back to those 3 notions and allows students from various backgrounds to attend the classes by offering alternatives to poses and flows.

Bio
Marios was born in the mid 80s in Nicosia Cyprus where they lived until the age of 19. During their early years they developed interest in art disciplines like classical singing and dance which they practiced at an amateur level through their childhood and adolescence.

After obtaining a Bachelor in Computer Science at University of Birmingham they moved to London and began working as a software consultant in the IT sector while in parallel continued to explore the artistic and physical side. At the age of 21 they were introduced to yoga which has become the main body of their practice today. Whilst in London Marios passion for dance surfaced again at the age of 25 and after two years of intense dance training in ballet and contemporary dance, at the age of 27 they were successfully admitted to the Bachelor Dance programs of Laban, LCDS, Sead and SNDO.

During and after completing their 2nd Bachelor (of Arts this time) at SNDO (School of New Dance Development) they collaborated with artists at the experimental performing arts scene in Amsterdam including Giulio D’anna, Isadora Tomasi, Charlie Laban, Alya Hessy, Tiana Hemlock and others, either as an art contributor, a performer and/or a choreographer themselves. As a choreographer their work was developed around feminism, beauty (vanitas) and “going back to the root of things”.
