Stavros Stavrou Karayiannis – Abstract for presentation: The movement that attracts me seeks to gesture, literally and figuratively, towards prescribed behaviour but also proscribed. The body’s kinesthesia is therefore inextricably linked to the various kinds of heritage that the body carries. Often, this complex heritage shapes those emotional layers where Memory sculpts its presence in the movement. This presence may also function as story telling – a narrative of the body’s remembered but also unconscious history, a fluid and kinaesthetic record of the body’s own history and a choreographed expression of trauma and loss, but also the cultural wealth that is intrinsic to every body.
Film
Marios Mettis – Tsikitigklon, The Fairy And The Man – A trans woman finds herself trapped inside the van of a mysterious man whose intentions are not what they seem to be. Tsikitigklon, The Fairy and The Man, is a story about the true self we hide, and that the only way to remove the mask we all insist on wearing is through love and some magic.
Performance
Isadora Tomasi – I Wanna Tell You Another Story is a solo performance initiated by Isadora Tomasi during a residency at workspacebrussels. Drawing inspiration from Virginie Despentes’ King Kong Theory, the work explores the impact of clothing on the gaze of the other, how this influences self perception, and puts the female body at the center, investigating various possibilities of being female.
The work explores gender intricacies, resisting simplistic labels, using electronic music, text, voice looping and physicality to express and investigate the complexity of a body, Isadora’s body, labeled female at birth, resonating with gender fluidity.
